In order to take advantage of our web hosting plan, you need to have your own
registered domain name, like www.yourdomain.com. To do this,
you have to choose one (1) of the three (3) following options:
- Use an existing domain name that you already have registered;
- Register one with us for $19.95/year
[Click
here to do so now];
- Register one with any other domain name registrar.
Note: There is no additional cost to using an existing domain name
or registering one with another registrar, other than the registration
fees you'll have to pay your registrar.
Advantages of registering your domain name with us:
- We will setup your nameserver settings for you, so your
domain correctly points to your new web hosting account.
- You have a single point of contact (us) for the
management of your web hosting account and your domain name.
- Automatic renewal notices will be emailed to the email
address you provide in your domain registration form, 30 days, 7
days and 1 day prior to expiration. This helps safeguard against
you forgetting to renew your domain name and losing it.
- 30 day leniency on domain expirations. If you
accidentally forget to renew your domain name and it expires, we
keep it in our database for up to 30 additional days to allow you
time to renew at our regular registration rate. With some other
domain registrars, you may be out of luck.
When you register a domain name, that domain is yours for as long
as you keep it registered. You can register a domain for as little as
1 year, or as long as 10 years. Either way, you will have to renew
your domain name's registration before it expires, or risk losing the
domain to anyone else who wishes to register it.
Using an Existing Domain Name
If you already have a domain name that you wish to use with our web
hosting account, you simply have to update the nameservers that your
domain name points to, with your existing registrar. These new
nameserver settings will be provided to you in your welcome email. An
example of what these nameserver settings will be is:
Primary DNS: ns3.nameserver11.com
(69.72.160.37)
Secondary DNS: ns4.nameserver11.com
(69.72.160.38)
To change your domain name's nameserver settings, you have to go to
your existing registrar, login to your domain manager, and update the
nameserver settings there. Once you make the necessary changes, your
domain name will start working (pointing to your new hosting account)
within 24 to 48 hours.
Registering a domain with another registrar
You can also register a new domain name with another domain
registrar, instead of using an existing domain name, or registering
one with us. If you do this, you'll simply have to update your domain
name's nameserver settings as described above.
Transferring a domain name to us
If you already have a registered domain name with another registrar,
you may want to "transfer" or "move" your domain
to our registry for the advantages listed at the top of this page.
This is not necessary in getting your domain name working with your
web hosting account. It's only necessary if you want us to become your
registrar, to which you pay your annual domain registration fees. If
you want to transfer your domain name to our registry, follow these
steps:
- First update the nameservers your domain name points to, so they
point to our servers (this is not necessary to transfer your
domain name to us, but is critical if you want your domain name to
start working with your new web hosting account as quickly as
possible).
- Check with your current registrar to ensure "Registrar
Lock" is turned off, thus allowing you to transfer your
domain name out of their registry. If Registrar Lock is on, they
are essentially not allowing you to transfer your domain name away
from them.
- Initiate a transfer request with us [Click
here to initiate transfer request];
- Although there is a charge of $19.95 to transfer a domain name
to us, the transfer also adds 1 full year to your domain name's
registration. The transfer is therefore essentially free... you
just have to pay up-front for your next year's registration.
- An automatic verification email will be generated and sent to
the email address you have on file with your registrar. You will
have to approve the transfer request by clicking on a link in that
email. Once approved, the transfer will be completed within 1-2
business days. Failure to approve the transfer request will result
in your domain name not being transfered.
If you have any questions about domain name registrations,
transfers, or anything else, please do not hesitate to contact
us.
